good morning______________✌️✌️✌️✌️

_________"METHOD - 1" _____________

First count the total number of electrons in the given molecule then use the table given below.

No of electrons —————Bond order.

14 ———————————— 3

13/15 ——————————— 2.5

12/16 ——————————— 2

11/17 ——————————— 1.5

10/18 ——————————— 1

9/19 ——————————— 0.5

8/20 ——————————— 0

______"METHOD - 2"___________

I’ll tell you the shortest trick and Really the shortest one to find bond order of almost any compound (please note that in some exceptional compounds this trick may not work but it works in 95% of the compounds ;) )

To make it easier I’ll go like this:

Bond order has a phone number and it is 1 0 1 0 1 2 3 2 1 0

Now we all know the table of 2 i.e. 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20

now just arrange each digit of the phone number of bond order against the table of 2 like this:

1 → 2

0→ 4

1 → 6

0→ 8

1 → 10

2 → 12

3 → 14

2 → 16

1 → 18

0 → 20

on the RHS you have the total no of the electrons in the compound (or simply the sum of atomic no of all the atoms in it ) and on the LHS you have its bond order!

and if the sum of atomic no comes out to be an odd no., just look up to the values it lies in between, and you’ll have your answer!

Examples:

1. CN- (CN with minus 1 charge): add total electrons i.e. 6 for carbon + 7 for nitrogen + 1 for negative charge = 14 now look what’s written against 14. Its 3 and you have your answer!

2. O2+ (O2 with plus 1 charge): total electrons are 8 for oxygen + 8 for oxygen - 1 for a positive charge = 15. Now 15 lies between 14&16 so look what are the values of bond order that correspond to 14&16, they are 3&2 and since 15 lies between 14&16 its bond order would lie exactly between 3&2 which comes out to be 2.5 and there you have your answer!
