Hello,
The elevator can have three states.
1)when it is still(where no acceleration is present)
2)when acceleration is present in upward direction
3)when acceleration is in downward direction.
Now,
All the three cases have same force acting , the only difference is that they change the size.
Now,
The forces action are the force of gravity that is weight and normal tension force
Now forces acting on an elevator.
1)when elevator is still
N=mg
2) when acceleration is upward
N= mg+ma
3)when acceleration is downward
N= mg-ma
The force is related to apparent loss in weight of travelling body.
The above forces include the system of elevator as well as the travelling preson.
Hope this will be helping.
