The base-10 logarithm of 2 is the number x such that 10x=2 .

You can calculate logarithms by hand using just multiplication (and dividing by powers of 10 - which is just digit shifting) and the fact that log10(x10)=10⋅log10x , though it's not very practical...

So 3=log10(103)<log10(210)<log(104)=4.
