how to calculate magnetic moment for coordination compounds

1)Calculate the oxidation number of the central atom/ion. E.g Say X is the central atom which is in X(+n) state.
2)Write the electronic configuration of the aforesaid ion.
3)Check for ligand strength. If ligand is strong field then pairing of valence electrons will occur.
4)At the end calculate the remaining number of unpaired electrons. Say it is denoted by v.

5)Hence the resulting magnetic moment = {v(v+2)}^0.5
