Normalized fluorescence spectra are usually prepared by dividing the relative fluorescence intensity at each wavelength by the relative fluorescence intensity at the peak wavelength. This changes the y-axis from an arbitrary intensity scale to a scale that goes from 0 to 1.

For a time series of fluorescence intensity measurements, the normalized fluorscence intensity may be calculated by dividing the relative fluorescence intensity measured at each time point by the relative fluorescent intensity at one particular time point, such as the first one or the one at which the intensity was highest.
