how to calculate percentage in excel?

This is the subject of computer science...

   Let us say we want to calculate   X / Y  * 100  ..

Type in the value of X in   the cell  A1.  X can be also a formula or an expression.
Type in the value of Y in the cell.  Y can also be a formula or an expression.

Now in cell  C1, type as:    =A1*100/B1 
Select the cell C1 and select format cells menu option on the right mouse button click..  Select the number of decimal places in the tab "number".

If you want the  "%" sign to appear to the right of percentage value.. then select the tab  "Number" and the menu option "percentage".   In this case the formula in cell C1 must be as:    =A1/B1
