You have studied about the shells of an atom K, L, M, N

K = 2 electrons

L = 8 electrons

M = 8 electrons

if you have to calculate the valency of Ca(calcium).

atomic no of Ca = 20

K = 2

L = 8

M = 8

N= 2

here the N shell has 2 electrons left,

then it will be easy for it to lose two electrons but it will be difficult to gain 6 electrons .

So, valency would be 2.
