Answer:

if outermost shells has

1) less than 4 electrons than it is own it's valency

ex- boron-2,3(so valency is 3)

2) 4 electrons then valency is 4

ex- Carbon-2,4 (so valency 4)

3)more than 4 electrons than valency is (8-n)

n is the outermost electrons

ex- flourine -2,7 (so valency is 8-7=1)

Answer:

answer-The valency of an atom is equal to the number of electrons in the outer shell if that number is four or less. Otherwise, the valency is equal to eight minus the number of electrons in the outer shell. Once you know the number of electrons, you can easily calculate the valency

hope it helps
