yes we can calculate

for example, oxygen has an atomic number 8 then electric configuration will be 2 , 6 and we have to make the last shell filled. so we will borrow 2 then 2 will be the Valency

tiger0786p: will u give me the example on potassium
tiger0786p: atomic number 14
tiger0786p: 15
tiger0786p: it's by mistake
abc1712: atomic number of potassium is 19
abc1712: so its Electronic configuration will be 2 ,8 , 8, 7
abc1712: we need to fill the last shell completely so we have to take 1 to add in 7 to make 8
abc1712: so the added number 1.is the Valency of potassium

HERE IS UR ANSWER

The number of electrons in outermost shells tells the valency.

  • if electrons are 1,2,3 then the valencies will be +1,+2,+3 resp.
  • if the electrons are 4 valency is +4 or -4.
  • if electrons are 5,6,7 the valency is -3,-2,-1 respectively.
  • when electrons are 8 ,the valency is 0 indicating noble gases causing no rxns.
