the upper scale is main scale
while lower is vernier scale
Firstly take out least count of a vernier caliper
Least Count (L.C) = 1 Main Scale Division (MSD) - 1 Vernier Scale Division (VSD)
Then find out the reading of main scale lying behind the least count of main scale
After that find the line in Vernier scale where main scale line coincides
Now, reading = MSR + Coinciding line (refer second image I circled it) × LC
