How to calculate zero correction

Ever used a british stop watch, the ancient one with the needles. Well then its easy to know the zero error. Now imagine the initial reading on the watch is 0 and after you start it and stop it the reading is 3 sec. Well then its easy to say that it worked for 3 seconds.

Now the similar case when the initial reading was between 0 and 1 sec say some 0.5 sec and final reading is 3.5 sec. Then in that case the time elapsed will be the difference between them. Thus to modify and ease calculations we need to put the initial value to 0. This process is called zero correction.

And the initial reading you found out was the zero error. Now why we need this. This is because for small its not difficult to that extent but when operating with more accurate devices viz. Screw gauge, vernier callipers, pressure gauge. The differences require a bit of calculations to be done.

Hence there you are. To do zero correction of zero error to get your values strainght without lot of calculations and effort.

Hope it helps.
