We can use different indicators like litmus paper, methyl orange or phenolphthalein.

1. Oxides are mainly basic in nature so they will turn red litmus paper blue.

2. Methyl orange indicator gives red colour in acidic solution whereas yellow colour for basic solution.

3. Phenolphthalein indicator is colourless in acid whereas it turns pink in basic solution
