How to classify metals non metal by its electron configuration?

AFTER ELECTRONIC CONFIGURATION
If no. of electron in valence shell of a element are 1,2 or 3 then the element will be metal .

If no. of electron in valence shell of element are 5,6 or 7 then the element is non-metal.

Generally the elements with three or less electrons in the outer shell are considered to be metals and those with five or more electrons in the outer shell are considered to be non-metals. we may find some exceptions to this.
