Answer:

The microprocessor is called as brain of the computer system. The name CPU i.e. Central Processing Unit actually makes the reference towards Microprocessor of the computer. This is a small Pin Grid Array chip present on the motherboard performs and controls all the operations of the computer system. The microprocessor we are using might be a Pentium, an Athlon, a PowerPC, a Sparc or any of the many other brands and types of microprocessors, but they all do approximately the same thing in approximately the same way. In order to learn how these microprocessors work, we must start from the basics. 8086 and 80386 are the best to do this. 8086 is the base of all upward developed processors. It is a 16-bit microprocessor and 80386 is 32-bit version of the 8086. Most of the concepts; that current microprocessor implements and uses are based from these two microprocessors. If we directly go to Pentium or Athlon like microprocessors, it will become quite complex to learn architecture of these advanced microprocessors. So, the syllabus of the subject ‘Processor Architecture and Interfacing’ is designed to cover basics of microprocessor and its programming. It also contains the basics of microcontroller like 8051. The practical implementation is focused on programming as well as the interfacing to the external devices.

As per the examination scheme is concern the subject is allotted 100 marks for theory, 25 marks for internal term work assessment and 50 marks for the external oral. That’s the reason why the prime focus is given to practical implementation. Hope you will enjoy the learning of this subject.
