In high schools there may be exceptional education students included in mainstream classes. Some exceptional education students may have depressed intellectual functioning. Exposure to a range of intellectual abilities allows students to develop a sensitivity to those whose genetic background has presented with challenges.

Some exceptional education students make it to college with great commitment and hard work. Learning to appreciate their struggle is a plus in character.
