When it is exposed to air it will give white fumes.

Hi there,
So you need to confirm if collected gas is Hydrogen..
A gas is said to be Hydrogen by the following properties;
1) Hydrogen has no color or smell.
2) Hydrogen is neutral.
3) Hydrogen is recognized by the pop sound it makes while burning.
4) Hydrogen gas is highly Flammable.
These four above mentioned properties confirms that the gas collected is none other than Hydrogen.
