First, we treat acetamide with bromine and NaOH to get ethanamine. This is the Hofmann degradation reaction. After this, we treat ethanamine with nitrous acid to get ethanol.

Once we get ethanol, we need to dehydrate it to get ethene. The catalyst used would be concentrated sulphuric acid and heat. After we get ethene, we can use hydrogen and nickel at 60 degrees to get ethane. This is hydrogenation reaction.
