Hello friend,
● Benzaldehyde to benzophenone -
Benzaldehyde can be converted to benzophenone with the help of following steps -
# Step I -
Benzaldehyde is treated with methyl magnesium bromide followed by hydrolysis to get diphenylmethanol.
C6H5-CHO + C6H5-MgBr → C6H5-CH(OMgBr)-C6H5
C6H5-CH(OMgBr)-C6H5 + 2H2O → C6H5-CH(OH)-C6H5 + Mg(OH)2 + HBr
# Step II -
Diphenylmethanol is then oxidized with the help of chromyl chloride to get benzophenone.
C6H5-CH(OH)-C6H5 + [O] → C6H5-CO-C6H5 + H2O
Hope this helps you..
