Butan-1-ol can be converted into but-1-ene by following step of reactions -
(i) React butan-1-ol with SOCl , 1-chlorobutane is formed .
(ii) React 1-chlorobutane with alcoholic KOH , but-1-ene is formed .
- In the second step of the reaction , the elimination process is taking place .
- 1-Butene is used in the manufacturing process of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) .
- 1-Butene gas is colourless and highly flammable in nature .
