At first we have to protect the one or the =O group in the butanone by ketal formation so that on reduction it does not gets reduced.
Then, on butanone we have to add HCl to make its chloride at terminal position then adding aqueous KOH then KMnO4 and again with Na then NaOH with CaO will result in the acetone formation.
Again, we have to remove the ketal to get the acetone.
