This conversion can be facilitated by Grignard's reagent.
CH3-CHO+CH3MgBr→(CH3)2-CH(OH)
CH3-CHO+CH3MgBr→(CH3)2-CH(OH)

Conversion of Ethanol to Propan-2-ol:
The conversion of ‘ethanol’ to ‘propan-2-ol’ is done by using Grignard’s Reagent. This is because the desired product is higher in the number of carbons, so by using Grignard’s reagent we can increase that.
So ethanol is treated with ethyl magnesium bromide along with dry ether and then hydrolysed to form propan-2-ol or also known as isopropyl alcohol. It is used mainly as a solvent for liquids as it ‘evaporates quickly’ and does not leave behind any traces of oil.
