Alright here’s the first conversion,
Ethanal to Propanone
Carry out reaction of ethanal with Methyl Magnesium Chloride (Gridnards Reagent) followed by its hydrolysis to obtain Prop-2-ol.
React prop-2-ol with Cu at 300°C to dehydrogenate it to give Propanone.
2. Toluene to Benzoic acid
Toluene first undergoes photo chlorination and then Nucleophilic substitution with aq.KOH to give rise to Benyl alcohol.
Benzyl Alcohol then undergoes complete Oxidation in the presence of KMnO4, to give Benzoic Acid.
