ETHYNE CAN BE CONVERTED TO HEX-3-YNE BY REACTING IT WITH 2 EQUIVALENT OF NaNH_{2} AND 2 MOLES OF ETHYL BROMIDE.

Explanation:

  • Sodium amide is an excellent base it takes up the terminal hydrogen atom from alkynes. So, when ethylene will be reacted with sodium amide(NaNH_{2}) it will take its terminal hydrogen atom and will form a acetylide ion. Then we will react it with ethyl bromide(C_{2}H_{5} Br) and it will form butyne.
  • Then butyne will again be reacted with another equivalent of sodium amide(NaNH_{2}), and then with ethyl bromide(C_{2}H_{5} Br) to form hex-3-yne.
