hi dear here is the answer

CH3-CH3 + Cl2/light --------> CH3-CH2-Cl

CH3-CH2-Cl + KOH (aq) ---------> CH3-CH2-OH

CH3-CH2-OH + K2Cr2O7/H2SO4 --------------> CH3-COOH

CH3-COOH + NaOH --------> CH3-COONa

CH3-COONa + CaO + NaOH + heat ---------> CH4

last reaction is decarboxylation using soda lime ...

hope it is helpful dear

How ethyne is converted in to methane?

1] Acetylene combines directly with water in the presence of mercury(II) salts to give ethanal [acetaldehyde as you are still using old names]

2] This is readily oxidised to ethanoic acid [acetic acid] using acid dichroic

3] Neutralise with NaOH and evaporate to dryness to heat gently to get anhydrous sodium acetate

4] heat with soda lime to get methane
