A galvanometer can be converted into ammeter by connecting a low resistance called shunt in parallel to the galvanometer.

- G → Resistance of the galvanometer
- S →Resistance of the shunt
- Ig → Current through galvanometer

→In order to convert a Galvanometer into an Ammeter, a very low resistance is connected in parallel to Galvanometer. →Value of this resistance is so adjusted that most of the current passes through it.
→In this way a Galvanometer is converted into Ammeter.
