By addition reaction you can add an hydrogen atom and make this unsaturated to saturated from pentyne to pentene.

The process of conversion of pent-1-ene to pent-2-yne is as follows -

  • According to the IUPAC nomenclature of chemical compounds, the symbol of pent-1-ene is CH_{2}=CH-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-CH_{3} and the symbol of pent-2-yne is CH_{3}-C\equiv C-CH_{2}-CH_{3} .
  • In the first step, we will add HBr to pent-1-ene.
  • CH_{2}=CH-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-CH_{3} \rightarrow^{HBr} \ CH_{3}-CH(Br)-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-CH_{3} .
  • In the second step, we will add alcoholic KOH to the previous product.
  • CH_{3}-CH(Br)-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-CH_{3}\rightarrow^{Alc \ KOH} \ CH_{3}-CH=CH-CH_{2}-CH_{3} .
  • In the third step, we will add Bromine (Br) to the previous product.
  • CH_{3}-CH=CH-CH_{2}-CH_{3}\rightarrow^{Br_{2}} \ CH_{3}-C(Br)=C(Br)-CH_{2}-CH_{3} .
  • In the last step, we will add NaNH_{2}  to the previous product.
  • CH_{3}-C(Br)=C(Br)-CH_{2}-CH_{3}\rightarrow^{NaNH_{2}} \ CH_{3}-C\equiv C-CH_{2}-CH_{3} .
