Explanation:

Picric acid from phenol

Picric acid also known as 2,4,6-trinitro phenol.

Step 1: First treat the phenol with concentrated sulfuric acid.

Step 2: Then treat the above mixture with a mixture of concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric  cid.
