Phenol is oxidized to benzoquinone as
It is a oxidation reaction. The ready oxidation of phenol is explained by the fact that the presence of OH group on the benzene ring increases electron density to the ring due to resonance which makes it for oxidation reaction.

Hey dear,

● Phenol to benzoquinone -
Phenol on oxidation with potassium dichromate in acidic medium gives benzoquinone.

C6H6O + 2[O] --> C4H4O2 + H2O
Reagent : K2Cr2O7 + H2SO4

Alternatively, you can use following reagents for oxidation of phenol -
1) acidic. Na2Cr2O7
2) alk. KMnO4
3) Jones reagent
4) Cr2O2Cl2

Hope this helps you clear doubts.
