To convince your parents about something they want us to do but we have something other to do, first of all ask them for it then say that thing again with respect. If that doesn't work then promise to score good marks or do some promises. They might agree by now .

If they are reasonable, normal parents:

make yourself reliable/trustworthy. Then their (over) protectiveness can be assuaged.

If they are the opposite of reasonable and normal parents:

Get a guidance counselor or arbiter whose 'authority' your parents will recognize. If they recognize your arbiter, they will listen, for your benefit, as you have requested here on question.
