How to deal with very emotional student ?

The problem with letting our emotions dominate our perceptions, judgement, and behaviour is that they aren't always accurate. Our emotions are always real and valid but not always fact or accurate in interpretation. I say to students your emotions are real but not always true. So how do we handle this?
1) We name and validate the emotion we are feeling and then using self-talk we speak truth into it.
2) We find ways to lower our 'baseline' so that we aren't in emotion mind but are actually in wise mind - the place where our heart and brain work together in harmony and balance...
