How do you predict bond angles?
The bonds act like charged rods. Suppose you have 4 charged rods (same polarity) with small thread coming out from one end of each rod. Let us say you are an astronaut and you tie all those strings to a common knot point and leave them to orient themselves. Now visualize what will be their final orientation. To minimize repulsion, the rods will try to move farthest from each other but tied to a common knot. The rods will orient themselves in a position that is most favorable for minimum repulsion. Feel it. They will orient themselves in tetrahedral shape i.e the angle between each rod takes 109 degree 28 minutes. This is the optimum shape for minimum repulsion when there are four bonds connected to central atom.
