hiii,
Yes, it will work satisfactorily. Lime water absorbs carbon dioxide and hence there is no carbon dioxide for the leaf and hence photosynthesis does not take place and no starch is prepared. Hence on iodine test, the presence of starch is negative and thus proves that carbon dioxide is required for photosynthesis.
hope helps

ACTIVITY to demonstrate that Carbon dioxide is essential for photosynthesis

>Take a potted plant which has long leaves and place it in a dark place to destarch its leaves.
When the plant is put in a dark place then it cannot synthesis starch (due to the absence of sunlight) and it will thus use the starch already present in it. So, after about 3 days no amount of starch is left in the plant.
>Now, Take a glass jar and put some Pottasium hydroxide solution in it, in order to make the atmosphere inside the bottle free of carbon dioxide as the KOH solution will absorb the existing CO2.
>Now, fit a rubber cork on the mouth of the jar. Make sure that it is air-tight.
>Cut the rubber cork into halves so as to provide a narrow space to fit the leaf.
>Now, take the destarched leaf (without plucking it from the plant) and put it in the bottle. Remember to make sure that the upper-half of the leaf should remain outside and the lower-half of the leaf should remain inside the bottle.
>Keep the glass jar in sunlight for few days. Then, pluck the leaf and boil it in alcohol to remove the chlorophyll. (Remember to use a water bath for boiling alcohol as it is highly inflammable)
>Put few drops of iodine solution on the leaf so as to notice the change in color.
>We will observe that the upper part of the leaf turns blue-black while the lower portion undergoes no change.
>Thus, we conclude that "Carbon dioxide is essential for photosynthesis".
