We can derive the dimensional formula from the general formula with three Dimensional units LENGTH(L),MASS(M) And Time(T).
ITS WRITTEN IN FORM OF [M^a L^b T^c ]
EX:-THE DIMENSIONAL FORMULA OF SPEED HOW TO FIND ???
1) WRITE THE GENERAL FORMULA OF SPEED
SPEED = DISTANCE / TIME
2)WRITE THE UNITS OF PHYSICAL QUANTITY
DISTANCE SI UNIT IS m
TIME SI UNIT IS sec
3)Write the units in place of physical quantities
Speed =m/sec
4)write the dimensional units with presence of it in the units
MASS(M) - 0 "a" (because there is no mass here)
LENGTH(L) - 1 "b" (because there is length one time )
TIME(T) - -1 "c" (because it is in form of 1/t means power is -1)
Note :- The Powers of dimensional formula a,b,c are decided on basis of the power of physical quantities.
5)Now write the dimensional formula
IT SHOULD BE IN SQUARE BRACKETS.
[M^0 L^1 T^-1 ] IS THE DIMENSIONAL FORMULA OF SPEED.
