Hey mate..

How to determine which element belongs to which period ?
>> In order to determine which element belongs to which period ,we need to know that in Modern Periodic table, there are basically 7 horizontal rows known as periods.
>> In a period , The atomic number of an element increases as we move from left to right.
>> The valence shells remains the same in each period . So we can say that Atoms of different elements with the same number of occupied shells are placed in a same period.
>> For ex ---> Na , Mg , Al , Si , P , S , Cl and Ar belong to the third period of the Modern periodic table since the electrons in these elements are filled in K, L and M shells. Each period marks a new electronic shell getting filled.
>> Let's take the element Sodium which is also known as ' Na ' in short . We know, The atomic number of Sodium is 11 . So , The electronic configuration of Sodium is 2.8.1 .
>> Now, Here we are 2.8.1 . It has three shells . So, We can say that it belongs to 3rd Period of the Periodic table .
Also, It has 1 electron in its valance shell, So, We can say that it belongs to 1st group of the periodic table.
So, The element Sodium ( Na ) belong to 3rd Period and 1st group of the periodic table.
Hope it helps !!
