Butter is solid at room temperature while cooking oil is liquid at room temperature.

Butter comes from cows while oil comes for seeds, nuts , and fruits.

Butter in taste like creamy and little bit sweet while oil in taste like the plant it come from or it has neutral taste

Butter cakes get hard when it refrigerated while oil cakes stay moist

Butter is dairy product it containing hing amount of saturated fatty acid while oil generally contains majority of unsaturated fatty acid

The same difference as in between oil and butter. Cooking oil is extracted from various sources such as peanut, groundnut, rice bran, cottonseed, mustard, and so on. Whereas butter is a milk product, prepared by whipping cream. Hence, butter contains much more calories than oil.
