SO2 is a colourless pungent gas which we can test as
follows:
1. Acidic dichromate paper ---orange to green
2. KIO3+ starch solution reagent---SO2 turns filter
paper moistened with KIO3 and starch soln blue.
Lime water reagent SO2 forms white ppt of CaSO3
with lime water.
CO2 being a colourless and odourless gas evolves with
effervescence.
The test reagent for CO2 is lime water or baryta
water.
It forms white turbidity with limewater due to insoluble CaCO3
formation.
Ca(OH)2+CO2 ®¯CaCO3+H2O
