\bf{\underline{\underline{Division in Integers}}}

✴We know that operation of division is an inverse operation of multiplication.

✴ If a and b (not 0) are two integers, then dividing a by b is same as finding an integer c which when multipled by b gives a i.e. b×c=a

Observe :-

5×9 = 45 | 45÷5 =9 , 45 ÷ 9 = 5

3×(-7) = -21 | -21÷3 = -7 , -21÷ -7=3

We observe that

  • When we divide a positive integer by a postive integer or a negative integer by a negative integer, we divide them as natural numbers and put the Postive sign before the quotient. We get a positive integer.
  • When we divide a negative integer by a postive integer or a positive integer by a negative integer, we divide them as natural numbers and put the negative sign before the quotient. We get a negative integer.
