half-reaction is simply one which shows either reduction OR oxidation, but not both. Here is the example redox reaction used in a different file: Ag+ + Cu ---> Ag + Cu2+ It has BOTH a reduction and an oxidation in it. That is why we call it a redox reaction, from REDuction and OXidation.

Solution.redox

Step 1: Separate the half-reactions.

Step 2: Balance elements other than O and H.

Step 3: Add H2O to balance oxygen.

Step 4: Balance hydrogen with protons.

Step 5: Balance the charge with e-.

Step 6: Scale the reactions so that they have an equal amount of electrons.
