This method of grafting is done when the rootstock is overgrown and thus not suitable for stone grafting

Normally in this method, seedlings of 8-10 months old are selected.

The grafting is done on newly emerged flush. The scion wood to be used is defoliated 10 days prior to the grafting and has same thickness as that of terminal shoot.

The method of grafting is similar to stone grafting. July and August are the best months for soft-wood grafting.

Softwood Grafting as Useful Method of Propagation for Commercial Multiplication of Syzygium cumini L. under Semi-Arid Climatic Conditions of India..
Mango is an important tropical fruit, which is being grown in more than 100 countries of the world. An inadequate supply of genuine propagating materials is a major constraint in mango production. Mango can be propagated by both sexual and asexual methods but the vegetative method is desirable because it produce true to type plant. Mango stone lose their viability very soon. However, it depends on the storage conditions. Successful germination and production of plants is largely dependent on growing media Raising mango seedling is very difficult task, as there are more chances of mortality at seedling stage. Softwood grafting has been successfully using as an efficient, economic and rapid method for the propagation of mango. This publication indicates the best alternatives to and scientific basis to traditional methods for growing of mango rootstock and success of softwood grafting.
