how to do the remainder theorum in polynomials for ninth class ?

i am taking an example ,   say (x+1) is a factor of p(x)
                 ∴we have to first find the value of x
                 ∴x=1
                 ⇒x=-1
and then if we put the value of x of p(x) we will get the answer 0.
