Explanation:

As you have not specifically mentioned which type of 3D drawing you want to draw, I am going to explain how to draw an Anamorphic 3D drawing (A perspective anamorphosis to be precise).

Anamorphosis is nothing but a distorted projection of an image which when viewed from a particular perspective, it appears in proportion.

Method:

All you have to do is draw a distorted image of the reference or an object you are using and take a picture from a perspective to "make" it look like a 3D object placed on a paper.

There are lot of methods to draw this type of 3D images like placing an actual object on a paper and use the web cam view or your view to draw the distorted image.

But it will be a rough method and most of the times it will not come out well unless you're an expert.Step 2: Take a picture of marked graph sheet+object OR only the marked graph sheet(if reference is a picture) in the perspective you want your picture to appear. Now, place the reference picture on the graph sheet picture. Draw an overlay of lines over the reference image.

Step 3: Map & Draw.

Take a blank drawing sheet and draw same number lines as in the graph sheet which is in the reference picture.

Here's the catch.

MAP

the block in the actual reference picture

TO

the corresponding block in the drawing sheet.

Example: The tip of the snake's tail is in the 7th row - 2nd column (from the bottom) in the actual reference picture. Make sure it falls in the exact block of the drawing sheet.

To start with, you can just map the outline points on the drawing sheet and then concentrate on the details.

To draw this, I used HB, 4B , 8B pencils and a Q-tip for blending.

(Refer the aforementioned images to see how the final sketch looks like.)

Step 4: Cut for 3D effects.

Cut the other part of paper except the part which is sketched (upper half) and leave the lower half of the sketch as it is.

Step 5: Draw Shadows.

Shadow is an important aspect to give the 3D effect. Draw the shadows of the object by assuming the direction from where the light is falling on the object.

Step 6: Take a picture from the right perspective.

Use the same perspective which you have used to take the picture of the graph sheet for better effects.

However, I felt that snake in the reference picture looked a bit wide. So I took the photo from a slightly different perspective.
