there are few points which must be noted down before you start drawing the ray diagram as follows:
- type of lens
- position of object
- path of ray diagram
Explanation:
- type of lens
convex lens is a converging lens hence it forms real inverted image. concave lens is a diverging lens.it forms virtual image.
- position of object
relative position of object is very important for size of image if it is closer to lens it is magnified in case of convex lens and when far is diminished.in case of concave lens position does not matter.
- path of rays in the diagram
- if light ray passes parallel to principal axis it passes through the second focal point.
- if light ray passes through focal point the it passes parallel to principal axis after refraction
- if light passes through optical centre it passes undeviated through lens
