The gradual loss of water in the form of liquid from the aerial parts of the plant is called guttation and it is observed either in early morning or at night. It is found mostly in herbaceous plants growing in high humidity conditions and high soil moisture. When transpiration rate is low and high root pressure is build up then the guttation process is triggered excessively and the water is forced out in the form of drops through hydathodes which are special pores in the leaves.
