Copper is extracted by electrolysis where pure Cu is taken as cathode impure Cu as anode and the electrolyte used is CuSO4solution.

While passing electricity the Cu from the anode would get dissolved in the solution at the same time pure Cu from solution will get deposited at the cathode and the insoluable impurities present in anode would get deposited as anode mud.
