The slope of the velocity-time graph gives the acceleration at a point. The non-uniform velocity-time graph indicates that the acceleration is not constant for the occurring motion , hence in order to find the acceleration of the non-uniform velocity-time graph we need to find the slope of the line at each point which equals to the tan theta.
