It is change in velocity in given time interval. In one dimension we can say that
Acceleration = (Final velocity - Initial velocity) / (final time - initial time).
But in dynamics and in terms of derivative we can say that (dv x/dt) i caret + (dv y/dt) j caret where x and y are components of v.
