Hey there ....

If the number of protons and neutrons is given then

Atomic Mass = Protons + Neutrons

Or Atomic Number + Neutrons .

And for general knowledge you can learn atleast atomic mass up to 20 elements ...

Hope it helps ....

satya14392: how to know neutrons???
Bhawna369: If it's given in question
Bhawna369: otherwise you have to. learn atomic mass

Add the number of protons and neutrons to get the atomic mass because protons and neutrons are present in the nucleus of an atom which give the mass of an atom.
Atomic mass=protons +neutrons
Eg: In oxygen

Protons=8

Neutrons=8

Therefore atomic mass = 8+8=16
Always the number of protons and electrons will be the same before they form their ionic state. So always take the number of protons.

yuktha182004: say the atomic mass of oxygen
yuktha182004: it is 16
yuktha182004: atomic mass= protons + neutrons
yuktha182004: no of protons and electrons will be the same
yuktha182004: so, 16= protons +neutrons
yuktha182004: 16=electons+neutrons
yuktha182004: we know that oxygen has 8 electrons
yuktha182004: 16=8+ Neutrons
yuktha182004: 16-8=Neutrons
yuktha182004: therefore neutrons equals 8
