How to find atomic number from group number and period number?

1). if an element's valence electrons are x, it means it belongs to x group

Ex : Na has 1 valence electron (2,8,1)

hence it is in 1st group

2) if an element has 's' no. of shells, it means it is in period s

Ex : Na has 3 shells (2,8,1)

hence it in 3rd period
