Let consider ABCD is the mentioned rectangle.

According the question diagonal and length is given.

we have to find out it's breadth.

It is known that a diagonal divides a rectangle in to two right angled Δ

We have taken rectangle ABCD , AC diagonal divides it into two right angled triangles,

Here we will work on right angled  Δ ADC. in this triangle:-

length = DC,           ( known)

Diagonal = AC         ( known )

Breadth = AD = we have to find out it.

In Δ ADC:-

∠ ADC= 90°

∴ AC = hypotenuse = H

AD = Breadth =B

DC= Length =L

here we will apply Pythagoras  theory.

(Hypotenuse)² = ( Length)² + ( Breadth)²

( Breadth)² =(Hypotenuse)²- ( Length)²

B² =H² +L²

B = ( √H² +√ L²)

Hence this is the way to find breadth of a rectangle if the diagonal and length is given.

Ans :-This is the way to find breadth of a rectangle if the diagonal and length is given.

Answer: D=\sqrt{l^{2}+b^{2}  }

Step-by-step explanation:

  • In a rectangle if we divide it into two parts diagonally we get two right angle triangles and diagonal is the hypotenuse of each of the triangles.
  • So, by applying pythagoras theorem we find the hypotenuse of the triangle and we will get the diagonal.
  • Let hypotenuse=diagonal= D.
  • So, D=\sqrt{l^{2}+b^{2}  } , where l=length of rectangle and b=breadth of rectangle.
  • hence, diagonal (D)=\sqrt{l^{2}+b^{2}  } .
