How to find class strength when it is given boys and girls in ratio?

Really, i never rely on a method to find out the strength of the class only when these single data, boys and girls ratio is given. Lemme discuss some related kinda problems.
If the strength is given,
lemme show an example for the same.
Strength = 45
boys to girls ratio = 4:1
Solution : let the number of boys and girls be 4x and 1x respectively
2x + 3x = 45
5x = 45
x = 45/5 = 9
boys = 2x = 2×9 = 18 boys
boys = 3x = 3×9 = 27 girls.
besides, another related problem is when two ratios are compared, that is proportion. I think it goes out the topic.
